There is an upside to increased gasoline prices and a challenging economy. People in the United States are consuming less energy and therefore emitting less pollution for the first time in more than 25 years. Carbon emissions in U.S. fell last year following decrease in energy use. The 2.8% decrease last year is the steepest since 1982.
