Omnibus Bill Passes House

The House of Representatives passed the Omnibus Bill today. Since it has already passed the Senate, it now goes on to President Obama, who is expected to sign it. The bill is a collection of 170 separate measures that provides the government's highest level of protection on lands in California, Colorado, Idaho, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia. It encompasses over two millions acres of wilderness, almost forty scenic rivers, and over 5,000 miles of national trails, and is the largest bill of its kind in twenty-five years. 1. President Obama signed this bill on March 30, 2009. A major victory for all Americans and for the wilderness areas.
