Real Heroes Walk Amongst Us

I just got an email that while it is not entirely accurate in details, it is true.   It is about Medal of Honor recipient, Ed Freeman, who died in August of 2008.  He was a Vietnam War hero.  Apparently the point of the email is to speak badly about the American press.  I strongly feel that such editorializing of a powerful story pulls attention away from the real story.  The text of the email that has been circulating ever since Ed's death is included in the snopes.com link.  Wikipedia provides lots of good information without the sensationalizing bits about media coverage of rock stars and other famous people.

The only point that should be made is that Ed Freeman was a hero in every sense of the word.  He risked his life over and over again to rescue wounded soldiers on the battlefield, under machine gun fire, so those kids might have a chance to live.  It's nice to know that Ed made it to the age of 80, since he could easily have been killed during one of his many rescue missions during the Vietnam war.
