I think that it would be no surprise to learn that veterans who have seen combat duty might have a lot of emotional and psychological damage that makes it hard for vets to cope once they get back to "normal" life. Chronic pain from injuries can make it hard too to return to a regular routine. The veterans hospital in Seattle is teaching meditation as a way to deal with the stresses that come from having been in a war.
